Hitachi Maxell, Ltd. is a Japan-based company operating in three business segments. The Information Media segment manufactures and sells computer tapes, videotapes for broadcasting, Blue-ray discs, digital versatile discs (DVDs), compact discs (CDs), audiotapes and videotapes. The Battery segment manufactures and sells lithium ion batteries, coin-shape lithium secondary batteries, silver oxide batteries, lithium primary batteries and alkaline dry cells. The Material, Device and Electrical Appliance segment manufactures and sells optical components, functional materials, adhesive tapes, radio-frequency identification (RFID) systems, small-sized electrical equipments, electroformed and precision components, as well as mold products and synthetic resin molded components. On October 1, 2009, the Company merged with its subsidiary, Maxell Hokuriku Seiki Co., Ltd. In March, 2010, the Company became a subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd.
