United Community Banks, Inc. (United) is a bank holding company that conducts its operations through United Community Bank, Brevard, North Carolina, and United Community Bank, Blairsville, Georgia (collectively the Bank). Substantially all of United’s activities were conducted by the Bank. United conducts substantially all of its operations through a community-focused operating model of 27 separate community banks, which as of December 31, 2008, operated at 107 locations in north Georgia, metro Atlanta and Gainesville (Atlanta Region), coastal Georgia, western North Carolina and east Tennessee. The community banks offer a range of retail and corporate banking services, including checking, savings, and time deposit accounts, secured and unsecured loans, wire transfers, brokerage services, and other financial services, and are led by local bank presidents and management. In June 2009, United Community Bank announced the acquisition of Southern Community Bank.
