The Phoenix Companies, Inc. (Phoenix) is a holding company. The Company's subsidiaries provide life insurance and annuity products through independent agents and financial advisors. Its principal insurance company subsidiaries are Phoenix Life Insurance Company and PHL Variable Insurance Company. Its life insurance in force is permanent life insurance (whole life, universal life and variable universal life) insuring one or more lives. Its annuity products include fixed and variable annuities with a variety of death benefit and guaranteed living benefit options. It has two segments: Life and Annuity segment includes individual life insurance and annuity products, including closed block, and Saybrus provides life insurance and other consulting services to financial advisors in partner companies, as well as support for sales of Phoenix's product line through independent distribution organizations. On November 18, 2011, Phoenix sold Goodwin Capital Advisers, Inc. to Conning Holdings Corp.
