The Company primarily serves the worldwide freight and passenger transit rail industries. It provides its products and services through two principal business segments: the Freight Group and the Transit Group. It manufactures, sells and service electronics for railroads in the form of on-board systems and braking for locomotives and freight cars. The Transit Group focuses on new product development and has introduced a number of new products. It owns over 1,500 active patents worldwide and over 600 United States patents. In July 2008, Wabtec completed the acquisition of POLI S.p.A., a European manufacturer of rail braking equipment. In December 2008, it acquired Standard Car Truck. In October 2009, Wabtec Corporation acquired Unifin International from Koch Chemical Technology Group LLC.
