Description

Westar Energy, Inc. (Westar Energy) provides electric generation, transmission and distribution services to approximately 690,000 customers in Kansas. Westar Energy provides these services in central and northeastern Kansas, including the cities of Topeka, Lawrence, Manhattan, Salina and Hutchinson. Kansas Gas and Electric Company (KGE), Westar Energy's wholly owned subsidiary, provides these services in south-central and southeastern Kansas, including the city of Wichita. The Company supplies electric energy at wholesale to municipalities and electric cooperatives in Kansas, and has contracts for the sale, purchase or exchange of wholesale electricity with other utilities. It has 6,557 megawatts of accredited generating capacity in service. It owns wind generation facilities with an installed design capacity of 149 megawatts. In 2012, it purchased 760,807 megawatt hours of energy under these agreements.
