Rio Tinto Limited is an international business company engaged in metal and mineral production. The product groups of the Company include aluminum, copper and diamonds, energy and minerals, and iron ore. The business support groups of the Company include exploration, and technology and innovation. It produces aluminum, diamonds, iron ore and titanium dioxide feedstock in Canada, and thermal coal, copper, borates and talc in the United States. During the year ended December 31, 2008, the Company owned 30% of the copper mine, Escondida in Chile. In September 2009, Rio Tinto Limited completed the sale of its Corumba iron ore mine in Brazil and the associated river logistics operations to Vale S.A. In November 2009, the Company completed the sale of Alcan Composites, part of the Alcan Engineered Products division, to Schweiter Technologies. On February 1, 2010, the Company completed the sale of Alcan Packaging global Pharmaceuticals, global Tobacco, Food Europe and Food Asia divisions.
