Description

HealthSpring, Inc. (HealthSpring) is a managed care organization with a primary focus on Medicare, the federal government-sponsored health insurance program for United States citizens aged 65 and older, qualifying disabled persons and persons suffering from end-stage renal disease. The Company offers Medicare health plans, including MA-only and MA-PD in each of its markets. It also offers a national standalone prescription drug plan (PDP) plan. HealthSpring’s Medicare Advantage plans cover Medicare eligible members with benefits that are at least comparable to those offered under traditional Medicare fee-for-service plans. Effective October 1, 2008, the Company acquired the Medicare Advantage contract from Valley Baptist Health Plan operating in three counties in the Rio Grande Valley, which consisting of approximately 2,700 members and entered into a contract with Valley Baptist Health System to provide services to the members.
