Its treatment for angioedema (a skin swelling disorder), Cinryze, has received FDA approval as well as orphan drug status, which gives the company exclusive rights to market the drug for seven years. Lev Pharmaceuticals' research also extends to combating heart attack, Alzheimer's, and bowel disease. The company's development candidates are based on inhibitor protein C1-INH. Lev Pharmaceuticals has been acquired by fellow biotech company ViroPharma.
