NVE Corporation (NVE) develops and sells devices that use spintronics, a nanotechnology that relies on electron spin rather than electron charge to acquire, store and transmit information. The Company manufactures high-performance spintronic products, including sensors and couplers that are used to acquire and transmit data. It has also licensed spintronic magnetoresistive random access memory technology (MRAM). The Company’s designs are generally based on either giant magnetoresistance (GMR) or tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR). These structures produce a change in electrical resistance depending on the electron spin orientation in a free layer. The Company’s sensor products detect the presence of a magnet or metal to determine position or speed. The GMR changes its electrical resistance depending on the magnetic field. In its devices, GMR is combined with conventional foundry integrated circuitry and packaged in the same way as conventional integrated circuits.
