SEOUL — South Korea's Olympic figure skating champion Kim Yu-Na has moved her training base from Toronto to California after splitting with her Canadian coach, Kim's agency said Monday.
AT Sports said in a statement that Kim would move to the East West Ice Palace at Artesia on the outskirts of Los Angeles, where US figure skating superstar Michelle Kwan also trained.
"She decided to go to LA as many of her future skating activities are concentrated in the United States," the statement said.
However, an agency spokeswoman said the East West Ice Palace is only a temporary venue.
"A new coach has not been decided. She will work on the details such as a training rink and coach while at East West Ice Palace," the spokeswoman told AFP.
Kim, referred to as "Queen Yu-Na" in Korea, is the only South Korean figure skater to win an Olympic medal.
In August 2010 Forbes magazine listed her as one of the world's highest-paid female athletes with annual earnings of 9.7 million dollars.
She split with her Canadian coach Brian Orser last month for reasons that have not been fully explained.
Under Orser's tutelage, Kim won a gold medal at the world championships in 2009, gold at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and many other titles.
