Fans want Brees, Favre as Pro Bowl all-stars

NEW YORK (AFP) — Rosters for the National Football League's all-star game, the Pro Bowl, will not be announced until next Tuesday but fans have already made their top choices clear - Drew Brees and Brett Favre.

The NFL announced Thursday that Saints quarterback Brees led fan ballots for the annual February matchup between American and National conference stars in Honolulu.

Brees received 951,246 votes with New York Jets quarterback Favre second at 880,833. Favre, the 39-year-old former Green Bay Packers star who was sent to the Jets after returning from retirement, led American conference vote-getters.

Brees has thrown for an NFL-best 4,100 yards and 26 touchdowns this season but has not sealed the Pro Bowl starting slot because fan votes are not the only factor in the decision.

Fan, player and coach votes each count for one-third of the total toward deciding the 43-man rosters for each conference. The deadline for players and coaches to cast their ballots is Saturday.

In overall fan voting, Brees and Favre were followed by New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning (821,852), Washington running back Clinton Portis (767,817), Arizona quarterback Kurt Warner (673,710) and Minnesota rusher Adrian Peterson (666,442).
