JERUSALEM — Israeli President Shimon Peres, will start a five-day visit to Canada on Sunday, during which he will meet the country's leaders and visit Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal, his office said.
Peres, 88, will meet Governor General David Lloyd Johnson and Prime Minister Stephen Harper, a keen backer of Israel, as well as other senior politicians and the provincial governors of Ontario and Quebec.
"The president will discuss with them a series of political issues and the focus of recent developments in Iran's nuclear programme, changes in the Middle East and political relations between Israel and its neighbours," his office said.
The Israeli presidency is largely ceremonial and national policy is decided by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who visited Ottawa in March.
