Rap star Kanye West arrested outside British nightclub: report

LONDON (AFP) — US rap superstar Kanye West was arrested on suspicion of assault after a scuffle at a nightclub following a concert, Britain's Press Association news agency reported Friday.

Police said a 31-year-old man was arrested and later released without charge, but would not formally confirm his identity.

West, whose hits include "Homecoming" and "Jesus Walks", was held following an incident outside the Tup Tup Palace in Newcastle, northeast England in the early hours of Friday after playing the city's Metro Arena.

"We can confirm that a 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault following an incident at a Newcastle city centre nightclub in the early hours of this morning," a police spokesman said, when asked about the incident.

"He was released without charge and no further police action was taken."

A spokesman for the Tup Tup Palace said the Grammy Award-winner was at the club "with all his crew" but had no knowledge of any incident involving West.

The star was arrested in September at Los Angeles Airport after a scuffle with a photographer but the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office has said he will not face felony charges.
