PORT-LOUIS (AFP) — Mauritius President Sir Anerood Jugnauth, the ceremonial head of state, was re-elected Friday for a five-year term.
The 75-year-old, was unanimously re-elected by the national assembly following a motion by Prime Minister Navin Chandra Ramgoolam and approved by opposition leader Paul Berenger.
Jugnauth was first elected president in 2003. The veteran politician served as opposition leader between 1976 and 1982 and prime minister from 1982 to 1995.
