Mexican rock star infected after buttock injections

MEXICO CITY — Doctors operated on Mexican rock star Alejandra Guzman Thursday after she contracted an infection from injections in her buttocks, her family told media here.

"I'm worried. I just signed a paper authorizing the doctor to operate," Enrique Guzman, the star's father, who is also a singer, told Televisa television.

The operation was "dangerous" and sought to remove the material from Guzman's buttocks and work out how far her muscles had been damaged, her father said.

Guzman told Televisa beforehand that she regretted opting for plastic surgery to enhance her buttocks, and said that she now risked being paralyzed.

Officials from the capital's attorney general's office detained the owner of the clinic which Guzman attended following complaints from other patients.

Officials said that one patient had accused an unqualified employee of passing himself off as a doctor.

Guzman is a Latin Grammy winner with a large following in the United States.
