NASIRIYAH (AFP) — At least 11 people were killed and 40 wounded in a car bombing in a market area in a town in southern Iraq on Wednesday, a hospital director in the nearby city of Nasiriyah told AFP.
"Children and women are among the dead," said Batha town mayor Ali Fahad, who was unable to provide a precise toll for the attack. "We are now transporting the casualties to the General Hospital in Nasiriyah."
Batha is situated west of Nasiriyah in the province of Dhiqar.
A hospital official said the blast had caused "dozens of casualties."
