SAN ANTONIO, Texas (AFP) — San Antonio's Tony Parker scored 32 points to lead the Spurs to a 106-103 triumph over Memphis in a double-overtime thriller in the National Basketball Association.
France's Parker took charge in the second overtime, nailing back-to-back 20-foot jump shots to give the Spurs a 105-100 lead.
OJ Mayo responded for the Grizzlies, draining a 3-pointer to cut the lead to two points.
The teams traded misses before the Grizzlies' Marc Gasol grabbed an offensive rebound off Mike Conley's missed shot.
The Spurs knocked the ball out of bounds, and Memphis had it with less than 14 seconds to play.
Mayo's driving shot was blocked, as was an attempt by Rudy Gay as San Antonio escaped with the victory.
In the first overtime, Parker sank a driving layup with less than 30 seconds to play to give San Antonio a 99-98 lead.
Bruce Bowen then fouled Gasol with 7.4 seconds remaining. Gasol sank the first free throw but missed the second to tie the game at 99-99 and send it to the second overtime.
Both teams had a chance to win in regulation.
San Antonio's Manu Ginobili missed a short jumper with less than 25 seconds left, allowing Memphis to set up a final play.
Gasol wound up with the ball and missed an 11-footer at the buzzer.
Parker scored the Spurs' final seven points of regulation, including two free throws that knotted the score at 90-90.
Duncan finished with 29 points and Ginobili with 20 for the Spurs, who notched their fifth straight victory. The triumph followed a thrilling 91-90 win over the Phoenix Suns on Christmas Day, when Roger Mason jnr hit a 3-pointer from the corner as time expired.
