WASHINGTON — US Attorney General Eric Holder will travel to Uganda this weekend for the African Union summit, then fly to Cairo to meet senior Egyptian officials, the US Department of Justice said Friday.
Holder's meetings with foreign leaders will focus on "joint US-Africa efforts to promote peace, development and justice, including cooperation on fighting terrorism," the Justice Department said in a statement.
In addition to addressing the African Union summit, Holder will meet with several African leaders, it added.
On Tuesday, Holder is due to meet with Egyptian Public Prosecutor Abdel Meguid Mahmoud, Interior Minister Habib al-Adly, Justice Minister Mamdouh Marei and Minister of Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Mufid Shehab in Egypt.
He is scheduled to speak with reporters from the region on Wednesday at the US embassy in Cairo.
Holder is the top official at the US Department of Justice, responsible for agencies that include the FBI and the Drug Enforcement Agency.
