DENVER, Colorado (AFP) — Five-time women's world figure skating champion Michelle Kwan never captured Olympic gold, but on Saturday she claimed a prize to reward years of hard work - her college diploma.
The 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics runner-up and 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Games bronze medalist graduated from the University of Denver with a degree in international studies with a political science minor, receiving her diploma along with fellow grads on Saturday.
Kwan, a nine-time US champion, enrolled at Denver in 2006, after earlier taking classes at the University of California at Los Angeles.
Kwan, 28, studied in southern California during her years of training as one of the world's top skaters.
