LONDON — Actor and director Robert Redford is bringing his Sundance film festival to London in 2012, offering a sample of the best of US independent cinema to British shores.
"Sundance London" will be held on April 26-29 next year at The O2, the huge music venue at the former Millennium Dome, comprising film screenings, live music, discussion panels and other cultural events, it was announced Tuesday.
"It is our mutual goal to bring to the UK the very best in current American independent cinema, to introduce the artists responsible for it, and in essence help build a picture of our country that is broadly reflective of the diversity of voices not always seen in our cultural exports," Redford said.
Redford is the founder of the non-profit Sundance Institute and the annual Sundance Film Festival in the United States, which he began in 1981 as a haven for independent film.
