REYKJAVIK (AFP) — Iceland's President Olafur Ragnar Grimsson was hospitalised this week for a heart condition as the country battled severe economic problems but has resumed most of his duties, a presidential spokesman told AFP on Thursday.
"He went to the national hospital in Reykjavik on Monday to undergo angioplasty ... He is recovering and has resumed most activities," the spokesman said.
Grimsson, 65, was first elected to the presidency, a largely ceremonial office, in June 1996, becoming the Nordic nation's fifth president.
