Bernie Ecclestone's wife files for divorce: spokeswoman

LONDON (AFP) — The wife of Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone has filed for divorce, her spokeswoman said Thursday.

The announcement that the couple, who have two adult daughters, were to split after 24 years of marriage prompted immediate speculation about the scale of the settlement Slavica Ecclestone might receive.

The Ecclestones were listed at number 20 in The Sunday Times newspaper's rich list this year, with their wealth -- mainly derived from motor racing -- valued at 2.4 billion pounds (2.8 billion euros, 3.5 billion dollars).

Media reports suggest that the Croatian former model moved out of the family home in Chelsea, an affluent part of west London, the weekend of the Brazilian Grand Prix, when Lewis Hamilton became F1 world champion.

Ecclestone, 77, is chief executive of Alpha Prema which owns Formula One. Last year he also took over Championship football club Queens Park Rangers with Renault team boss Flavio Briatore.
