Speech Splicing Tool To Keep Candidates Honest?

- Anonymous - Oct 19, 2008 - Report this comment
This is a wonderful tool for gauging the repetitiveness of candidates' speeches, and thereby keeping them honest. For example, searching for 'put away the "video games"' returns a surprising number of results from Sen. Obama's speeches around the country (even though he advertises in them). While the TTS isn't perfect it's remarkably spot-on, and of applaudable quality. That said, if any of the brilliant Google engineers are watching this page for ideas, a lofty request that could change the future of citizen journalism: Please consider adding the ability to grab segments or "clips" from extant YouTube videos and provide the ability to either download or splice them together into new video compilations. Being able to excise video segments as easily as newspaper clippings would revolutionize this gadget, YouTube, and possibly even the political world.

Any way to see full transcripts of speeches?

I realize that the speech-to-text used here isn't 100% accurate, but even so, is there a way to view a complete transcript of the speeches rather than just a snippet where the term was mentioned? Another great tool either way.
This country cannot afford George W. McCain Anonymous - Sep 19, 2008 - Report this comment

His expensive war that has pushed this country so far into debt, but worse, has cost us so many lives? We need someone that can turn this nation around, restore our global reputation, and McCain is certainly not going to do that. My vote goes to Obama.

Technically you are right and there are more than two people running for predident. However, thanks to mainstream media, they do not get enough coverage to possibly have a snowball's chance in hell of winning. I would love to vote for Ron Paul who will be on the ballet here in Louisiana, unfortunaely that would simply end up being a vote for Obama. I am not not a McCain supporter, but even as a 24-year old female who lived the first 22 years of her life in San Francisco, I understand why this country cannot afford to have Barrack Obama as our predisnt. Yes he says he wants to lower taxes on Americans making less and $250,ooo, and as an American making 21,000 a year that sounds great. However he will also raise taxes on those making more than $250,000 per year. Who are those people? Those our OUR EMPLOYERS. Those people will not sit down and take lower net income. They will lay people off and raise prices to make up the difference, what is the point of a tax cut when you have no job? Worst case secenario it would start another depression, otherwise we'll just end up like France with 20% unemployment and workers rioting. It has been shown time and time again when taxes are lowered, and not just for regular Americans, but for EVERYONE, that gives regular families a break, and our employers more money. And with that extra money, regular families can save, invest, buy stuff and help the economy grow. And our employers also help expand the economy because demand goes up, they have more money to invest, create new jobs, and pay their current employees more money. The newly employed and the employees who get raises in turn go back and spend, and it conintues in a circular fashion. It wont go on like that forever depending on world circumstances and corruption, or a tax hike, but it makes for a strong economy where technologies advance and the American Dream can be realized. Government revenues actually go up when taxes are lower becuase people spend more money when they feel they have more money. So go ahead and vote for a third party candidte, but more than likely you will be giving Barack Obama a free vote. And this country cannot afford to have its economy socalized and destroyed.
Only two parties? Benjamin Smith - Sep 18, 2008 - Report this comment
Excuse me, but aren't there more than just people running for president? Why not index video and audio from the lesser-known political parties. Just because Republicans and Democrats are the loudest doesn't mean they're the only ones that matter.
What is America doing to tacle cigarette butt litter pollution Ricky AUDAIN - Sep 12, 2008 - Report this comment
Cigarette butt litter is a growing problem around the world. They pollute storm drains and waterways and smokers are generally unaware of the environmental damage caused by cigarette litter. Isn't it time that governments stop forcing the issue onto the manufacturers and start sponsoring campaigns to help the environment. Check out my website www.buttless.org for more information.

Obama will cut your taxes if you make under $250,000, like 95% of Americans. Politics is a place for reasonable discourse, not childish rhymes and lies. http://money.cnn.com/2008/06/11/news/economy/candidates_taxproposals_tpc/
