interesting bird food looks like oats . I see the difference the way the camera is catching pictures its fun to watch. I had a caged finch die on me the other day it seemed it just had a heart attack my veterinarian said birds die suddenly, for people out there that don't know if you hold or cradle these little birds you will be amazed how strong their heart beats and how warm and soft they are, they are delicate but, i'm always amazed how sturdy they are in harsh weather.

I have moved the web-cam and it's web server software to a new server, with an Intel i5 processor, 64 bit OS, 16GB memory, SSD cache for 3 1TB drives in a RAID 5 configuration. The old server had a Pentium D processor, 2GB memory, etc, and put off a lot of heat. The new server should not need to be upgraded for years.

Okay, so now I've gotten the http://mcraigweaver.com/bird.html page to work again, showing pictures from the web-cam. Now I'm working on getting the Google gadget to work again. After that is properly working, I will see about purchasing a new bird feeder -- my fourth one. This time I am going to modify the feeder so it won't be blowing away in high winds.

Well, I've re-hosted some of my content, so my web site is back up, however, I now have to get the cam back up and working at my home, and get my server there up to handle the web cam. I do plan to get it back, probably some time in 2010.

The heck with it - I want my birds back and to that end I added Craig's website to my Google Bookmarks. It may not be as "cool" as a direct feed of the cam on my home page, but hey... at least I'll get to see the birds! :-) Thanks for everything, Craig - we're pulling for ya!

To change the domain where the gadget's xml resides, Google requires that you update the "old" gadget at the old location, to prove that you are the "owner". Unfortunatly the old location doesn't really exist any more... http://mcraigweaver.com/ has a permanent re-direct to http://www.mcraigweaver.com:1024, soo.... I don't know. I think I will just register the "new" gadget, which will be exactly the same as the old one, but at a new location. If I ever re-host all of my pages -- I have a couple thousand if you count personal photograph pages, then maybe I can get this to work properly again.

Google doesn't seem to like that everything moved to http://www.mcraigweaver.com:1024/bird.html http://www.mcraigweaver.com:1024/bird/BirdCam.xml for the gadget. I will need to rehost things somewhere else if I want the gadget to work properly again. I will work on this. <sigh>

Well, Verizon blocks port 80, and I tried to use a different port, 1024, but that doesn't work very well, so until I find alternate hosting, and modify all my web site (actually over 1000 pages) to use the non-customized hosting, things will not be working well. Verizon is putting in their fibre from the road to our house today, and... they apparently cut the Comcast cable. The rest of the Verizon FIOS installation doesn't happen until this Thursday, so it will continue to be down at least until then, and probably longer since I will have to make DNS (Domain Name Server) changes.

There were at least 2 Pine Siskins at the feeder- 2/03/09 13:24. What's the feeder list? I've seen 22 spp. What do other people have to add? Hi, this is Craig, the developer of this gadget. I am switching from Comcast cable to Verizon FIOS on January 22nd, 2009, so there may be an outage for this gadget for a while, depending on how difficult (or possible) I find it to get my website running with FIOS. We have been having lots of trouble with Comcast lately -- I believe that they are shutting down our connection when we start using much bandwidth. I have about 20 devices with IP Addresses in my house, so we do use a bit of bandwidth at times.

Yes, I know, there is no food in the feeder. I will remedy that this weekend, the 27th of Sept, as I have purchased 50 pounds of sunflower heart chips. That should last a while. Now if only I could get someone at the house to fill the feeder when I'm away...
