This has been a good gadget. Such a shame that the underlying BBC news website has taken a distinct turn for the worse. The new website format means that speed of information take-up is slowed dramatically. No longer any point in visiting it. So I'm deleting this much loved gadget to make room for another news site.

As per the BBC being a part of the government, at least we know where we stand with them, and by law they must be objective. Do you know who buys and pays for the news on your local station, and especially on CNN, Fox, MsNBC, etc? The amount of propaganda on these channels is unbelievable!

Tales of BBC and the government being at loggerheads are yore. So that is something I would not accuse them of. But they may be guilty of bias when it comes to certain issues. Still the best news site on the planet...bar none.

It certainly has its political biases which dictate what becomes news and what doesn’t. It chooses a language that is biased towards the same political views, e.g. chooses who is militant and who is armed group. It also expresses the same political views by setting the timing and quantity of coverage, e.g. Sudan coverage vs. Congo coverage. When they cover a story, however, they are rather accurate and relatively balanced. They have an unmatched present around the world. They are more professional about information collection and editing. They are much better in avoiding shallow “news shows” and political “celebrity” interviews instead of real news. Despite their political biases, they are still good source of news.

Never forget that the BBC is an arm of the government. Although they've lost their once absolute control over the news, the government still has the right to kill certain stories on BBC and in the newspapers. The only independence that British media has is what the government allows them to have.
