by becoming a literacy tutor that are numerous children AND ADULTS who cannot read (at a functional level). By becoming a tutor, you empower them by giving them the gift of reading. That means the adults can do things they've been unable to before--have a checking account, gain promotions at work, get a driver's license, read the nutrition label, travel by themselves, etc. All things you take for granted every day.

it has been my dream to do something in my community, and i believe i don't need to be big to make a difference. Thanks room to read for inspiring me more. I hope many people will keep the positive ripple move and touch people's lives. when i get back to my hometown and start my advocacy, i hope to post photos here too... :D
Fantastic Results in educating children rtjhunt@comcast.net - Dec 16, 2008 - Report this comment
I love the theme pictures on iGoogle. This is a real results oriented operation that happens to be a charity. I like the way that they hire only local country directors to share in the cost of building schools, libraries, language labs, girls' scholarships with involved villagers. Ex pats need not apply. Here is a link to a clip of a movie I took when I visited about 7 Room to Read projects in Nepal in 2002 accompanied by John Wood, founder and CEO of Room to Read along with 9 other donors: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rev3fPe0EJM Enjoy, Hoov

Thank you for including such a great organization in this promotion. I love the idea that I can promote Room to Read's amazing work through this theme plus -- the photos are incredible and inspirational!
This theme has pictures of a large variety of cute children from different places, and also promotes a very good cause. I'm glad I discovered the existence of Room to Read by seeing this theme.
