I used this app to keep up with my college age son for several months with only the usual small problems. At 02:00 on 03 MAR 2013, his location just stopped updating, and showed as being progressively older as time went on. When I spoke with him, he had no idea it had stopped sharing his location (it still showed his location to him), and he was sure he had changed nothing. He installed some update, at which time it updated his location to me once... but this time after a few hours it just started saying "location unknown", and didn't even display the last (old) location like before. He accesses it through Maps, which was preinstalled (and thus can't be uninstalled and reinstalled). Any ideas??

I'm greatful for Google Latitude. One of my brothers snowmobiling trips went badly and he didn't return home that night when expected. My mother called Search and Rescue, but unfortunately they were unable to get a ping off his cell phone. A different brother could see him on Google Latitude and give the coordinates to the Search and Rescue team. Search and Rescue was able to go directly to him quickly and safely while navigating amongst huge shear and jagged cliffs.

Even though My android Phone has GPS enabled latitude seems to only use cell towers for location. It would also help if the update frequency was variable.

When I first got a smart phone, 12 months ago I had it all worked out. Then the app store disappeared. It turned out to have been renamed Google play. I had to search to find out what happened. Now Latitude has disappeared and I am searching and it's look like it has moved into maps. What the...(That's Australian for WTF) I'm not that smart with tech but why make it harder for me. I figure something out & someone changes it. OK a lot of the stuff is free so I have no right to complain but, Not happy Jan (That's Australian for - this sucks)

I used the latitude widget constantly. Burying it in maps is a bad idea. Integrated with maps is a good idea IF you keep the latitude quick buttons on all the time when you turn the latitude layer on. You have a checkbox for show zoom buttons on the screen. Add a checkbox for a setting to always show latitude buttons on screen please'

I think I just figured it out. Latitude app disappeared when Maps update was installed. Tap the upper left corner of Map and you'll get a drop down menu that includes latitude, among other things. Actually, it's kind of nice.

It is now part of maps. You can make a short cut on your desktop for maps. However the nice widget is gone. Agree, it needs to come back or someone needs to figure out a way to tap into the apps to use it again.
