Terms and Conditions

  1. This competition is open to all Irish residents attending schools in the Republic of Ireland, excluding employees (and their families) of Google Ireland Limited (“Google”) and any of its affiliates, as well as representatives or agents of Google or other persons professionally connected with the 'Doodle 4 Google' competition.
  2. Entrants will submit their Google doodles on the "My Future" theme to their schools, who will then select 6 Google doodles to be sent to Google. The school's decision is final in this matter and Google will not accept entries by any other route. The closing date for receipt of entries by Google from schools is midnight on December 18th 2009. Entries received after this date will not be eligible for entry into the competition. The 6 Google doodles submitted by a school will be entered into the relevant regional heat.
  3. The 80 winning Google doodles will then be posted on www.google.ie/doodle4google, and 1 final winner from each class group will be selected based on a public vote of which Google doodles the public considers best represent the 'My Future' theme.
  4. Google will then select one national winner from the 4 national finalists. Their Google doodle will be displayed on the Google homepage in Ireland for 24 hours in March 2010. The winner's school will win a €10,000 technology grant from Google.
  5. All 4 national finalists will receive a laptop. The 4 teachers of the national finalists will also receive a laptop for personal use.
  6. The 80 regional winners will each receive a framed reproduction of their Google doodle and a goody bag.
  7. The 320 finalists will each receive a Doodle 4 Google certificate which we will post to their school.
  8. Any personal data collected during the course of the competition by Google will only be used and disclosed for purposes reasonably connected with administering this competition. You are entitled to access your personal data by writing to Google at the address below and to have any inaccuracies in your data amended or erased. Subject to parental consent (if required), the first prize winner and the finalists may be required to participate in publicity such as press interviews or other promotion on the Google services connected with the Google doodles after the competition which Google may reasonably arrange.
  9. Google reserves the right to use the Google doodles in any manner it sees fit (including with or without attribution) within future internal or external Google communications. The doodles may also be used for press and media purposes.
  10. In submitting a Google doodle each entrant warrants that he/she is the owner of the Google doodle and the copyright in it, and that he/she consents to its being used in the manner set out in these terms, or (where the entrant is not the owner) that he/she has obtained the consent of the owner(s) to use it in the manner set out in these terms without any further payment.
  11. Google accepts no responsibility for entries lost, delayed, damaged, defaced, or mislaid, howsoever caused.
  12. Entries will not be returned. Only one entry per person.
  13. Google's decision is final and binding and no correspondence will be entered into in relation to such decision.
  14. There is no cash alternative and the prizes must be taken as offered. Google reserves the right to substitute prize(s) of an equivalent value should the prizes become unavailable for any reason. If any winner is not able for whatever reason to accept their prize then Google reserves the right to award the prize to another participant.
  15. Google reserves the right to publish the name of the overall winner and their school on its website www.google.ie/doodle4google or through other media for publicity purposes. On entering into the competition, you agree to be involved in media activity regarding the competition. Google will contact you in advance to seek your permission if any media request interviews with the winning doodler/class. When you enter each pupil's doodle you will be asked to tick a box informing us you have received consent from the parents/guardian of each pupil to the use and disclosure of personal data as outlined in these terms and conditions.

  17. In the event of an inconsistency in interpretation between the English language and Irish language versions of the Terms and Conditions, the English language version shall prevail.
