Google Wave at I/O

We are using Google Wave to help I/O attendes view live notes, ask questions via Moderator, discuss session content and embed live waves. If you are new to Google Wave, feel free to review our Getting Started Guide and video tutorials.

How to find a wave for a session

You can see the wave for any given session in 3 ways:

  1. Install the Google Wave Extension for I/O and search for the session you are attending.
  2. Find the specific wave for sessions you are attending on the main Google I/O wave.
  3. If you're logged into Google Wave, visit the Sessions page on this site, find the session you're interested in and click the "View Wave" button.

Once you've found a session wave you're interested in, you can follow that wave to see future updates in your Wave inbox.

How to use Google Wave during the sessions

See a screencast demo of how to use Google Wave at I/O:

View live notes

Each session will have an "info wave" with general information and a "live wave" that you can participate in. In the live wave, we will have designated note takers for each session so that you can follow along.

Ask questions via Google Moderator

Submit and vote on questions via the Google Moderator gadget in each session's wave. Feel free to submit your questions before the event.

Embed live waves

Take traditional live-blogging one step further and embed waves so your readers can see content updated real-time without refreshing the page. You can do this one of two ways:

  1. Embed one of the waves we've already created.
  2. Create a new wave and embed it on your blog or site using the Google Wave Web Element or using more advanced features of the Wave Embed API.

Fun feature: Connect with other attendees via Maps gadget

Enter in your city or country in our Maps gadget, and you'll show up on the world map along with other I/O attendees. Note: your name, icon, Google Wave address, and the location you enter will be visible to everyone, including non-I/O attendees.

Google Wave extension for I/O

Install the Google Wave extension for I/O by clicking "Install" in this wave.

You should now see a new Google IO 2010 link under Searches on the left-hand side Navigation panel in Google Wave.

Clicking "Google IO 2010" will return all Google I/O session waves. You can then narrow down further by adding search terms to the query.
