COP16
COP16 › Workshops
The COP16 conference is taking place in Cancun between 29th November and 10th December.
What can Google Earth do beyond show you your house in satellite imagery from above? This workshop will demonstrate various ways of visualizing information such as the spread of bird flu, IPCC climate change scenarios and the collapse of the Larsen B ice shelf in Antarctica.
A powerful storytelling tool launched with Google Earth 5.0: KML Narrated Tours. Use the built-in tools to record your flight path and audio, turning Google Earth into a cinematic experience you can share with the world.
In Google Earth 6.0, you can walk through 3D forests in select urban and rural areas around the world. View models of different tree species, take a tour of several tree nurseries that the Green Belt Movement has planted in Kenya and get a glimpse of the 80 million trees they have planted since 1977.

With Google Fusion Tables, you can upload small or large data sets from Open Data Kit, spreadsheets / CSV files, and visualize your data on maps, timelines and charts–all online. Create custom Fusion Tables formulas to implement allometric equations which convert field-collected forest inventory data into biomass and carbon measurements. Learn about a demonstration project in the Brazilian Amazon using Android smartphones, Open Data Kit, and Fusion Tables to collect calculate, visualize and share forest carbon data.
Explore what other NGOs have done to tell their story and bring their cause to life using cutting-edge mapping technologies.
No demos all day.
On December 2, Google announced Earth Engine, an earth observations and informatics tool that allows large-scale data-mining of satellite and remote sensing data (historical, present and future). Google Earth Engine will significantly lower the cost and complexity of implementing forest monitoring protocols such as REDD, by hosting all of the required data and software "in the Google cloud".
Still collecting data in the field with clipboards and sheets of paper? Learn how digitizing the field data collection process using Open Data Kit on the Google Android mobile platform can streamline your workflow and enable you to visualize and share your data with others.
