I had to change in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf the <b>nv</b> device driver to <b>vesa</b> (or use the <b>dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg</b> command)<br>Then the X is started but only with vesa driver in 1680x1050 resolution, and I didn't have any 3D acceleration. The Ubuntu notified me, that there is restricted driver available for my computer, which driver was the nVidia driver. After I installed it everything was fine, after login the Compiz started too and it works.<br>I attched my <b>LG L1953TR</b> monitor to the external vga output, and then started the nvidia-settings. In the <b>X Server Display Configuration</b> menu I clicked on the <b>Detect Display</b> button. Then the tool configured the external monitor properly, so it works.<br></font><ul><li><font size="2"><b>Notebook Mouse</b></font></li></ul><font size="2">The notebook mouse works fine. I installed the imwheel stuff and configured the extra button to work as "Back" button - see xorg.conf and imwheelrc in <a href="http://google.com/notebook/public/05203643403138590771/BDSUCIwoQzM_-r5sjo">desktop apps configs</a><br></font><ul><li><font size="2"><b>Windows XP on KVM</b></font></li></ul><font size="2">First I had to enable the virtalization in BIOS, then install the <b>kvm</b> module (aptitude install kvm). For more details see the <b>Microsoft Windows XP with KVM</b> section.</font><font size="2"><b><br></b></font><ul><li><font size="2"><b>Windows XP on VMware</b></font></li></ul>Enable the virtualization in BIOS, then download the server tar.gz package from VMware home page then install.<br>The VMware got into the Ubuntu repository, so you can install it if you type <i>aptitude install vmware-server</i>.<br><ul><li><font size="2"><b>Play sound in more than one application in the same time</b></font></li></ul>The sound is works out of the box, but only one application can play at the same time. To enable multiple sound activities just install the <b>esound</b>, <b>esound-clients</b>, <b>esound-common</b> packages. Then I can play flash in Firefox, play movie in Totem and play songs in Rhythmbox/Exaile at the same time.<br><ul><li><b>Screen brightness</b></li></ul>You can change the screen brightness if you switch to a terminal (Ctrl+Alt+F1). In the 169.07 nvidia driver they fixed this problem, so after you installed it, you can change the brightness directly from the X.<br>First you have to download the latest driver from <a href="http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html">nvidia.com</a>. It's noisy, but works. When I don't use the mic, I switch it off. The bug is fixed in the BIOS version 2.07-1.08. If you don't have 32 bit Vista or XP on your machine, download the <a href="http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-68178">bootable CD image</a> which allows you to update your machines BIOS.
