What is hack.rva? And what's a hackerspace?

hack.rva is the brainchild of Luke Libraro, Skylar Roebuck, Chris Gerling, Clint Titsworth, and Faith Broache. Based on previously established hackerspaces like NYCResistor and hacdc, hack.rva is going to be a mecca for Richmond-area engineers, programmers, hackers, and geeks of all types.

In general, a hackerspace is a physical space where like-minded individuals with an interest in science, technology, and the arts can gather and collaborate. Hackerspaces provide infrastructure and equipment that members wouldn't otherwise be able to afford, as well as an environment of shared learning and innovation.

Hackerspaces usually gain funding by collecting membership fees. At hack.rva, we'll also be putting together workshops and classes for the general public, available for a reduced fee to members (see "Classes at hack.rva," below).
