Hi Kevin,  You probably know this already since you attended the Tech Matters with the TL from Georgia Southern WP.  I don't know if Ellen has actually created a website but she is bringing together TL's from WP's in Georgia to "talk" abut using technology as an effective teaching tool.  Folks on the Tech Matters team may have other suggestions for you, but I'm not sure they are on this Googles Handbook

Hi all,

I know a while back someone asked about content management systems, and I mentioned that I was learning Joomla.  Well, I'm still learning, but I wanted to let you all know that I think the steep learning curve is going to be worth my while.  I have a basic page up (http://www.georgiawritingprojects.org) and am already finding ways that Joomla will solve some of my problems.  The most notable is that I can give other tech liaisons from around the state publishing status, allowing them to be in charge of keeping the state website updated with news about their individual sites.  I now longer have to have everything come through me!  I also also no longer have to deal with FTP or passwords.  As the only "Super Administrator" at this time (what a scary thought!), I am the only one who can give others status and the only one who can make major changes to the page.

I will soon be moving my local writing project site to its own URL and using Joomla so that I can give our own site leadership team members publishing power and every TC reporting power and or editing power.  Soon, I hope both websites will be very active and more up-to-date than I as a lone webmaster can keep them.

If you have any questions about Joomla, I'll TRY to answer them, but I have to confess that I've had a true techie holding my hand every step of the way.

Hi all TM06 members.  I miss you.

Welcome to the Northern California Writing Project
Saturday, 12 June 2004
The Northern California Writing Project is a professional development organization devoted to improving the teaching of writing in our service region. That region, by the way, stretches from the Marysville area in the south all the way to the Oregon border, and from the north valley floor to the Nevada border to the east. We're affiliated with both the California Writing Project and the National Writing Project, and have been serving teachers since 1977.

Here in Massachusetts, we are working towards... a site that
collects news from the other writing project sites in our State Network. But
we are in the infancy of that work. Is anyone else creating or running a
state network site that the local sites feed into? I would love to get more
ideas. Right now, our working idea is a State Network Weblog that has RSS
feeds from the local sites collected on one page. Not ideal but I am hoping
it is a start. This is our beginning prototype: http://masswp.edublogs.org/

Good luck, Ellen the Joomla Queen.

Peace,
Kevin Hodgson
