The Intellectual Protection Fund

The IP Fund is a strong name
haha
ipfund.org is avail
great domain for that idea
cool
and every other tld is avail too except .com but its just a bullshit page there
hey man i really like this idea
buying IP for purposes of protecting it for the public domain
i mean, i know there are people already doing it
but there cannot possibly be enough poeple doing it
and it has a very clear stated goal
and i think a great story to get people to invest in it
and the stated result is a set of IP that the investors can make money off of
but in the following way::
people invest in it... either by money or ideas...
any non-profit venture may use the patent without pay
and for-profit ventures must pay in proportion to what they profit from it
11:35
.hj barraza
exactly
11:35
>||;]
that money is split among the investors relative to their contributiion
The IP Fund is a fund for not only money but ideas as well
i think its a great, very specific enterpirse
enterprise*
11:36
.hj barraza
how would it work for ideas ?
bring your ideas, we will protect them
and we can help you profit
11:36
>||;]
well people donate their ideas to be patented
yeup
so the people tha invest money help ideas be protected for th ecommon good
and people that bring ideas for the common good know they will be protected
everyone profits
...everyone
i like it a lot
it helps and protects innovation and is consistent with free market and free people principals
11:39
.hj barraza
there you go....
a perfect link with your current project
11:39
>||;]
yep
11:40
.hj barraza
i need to read more of miltons ideas
11:40
>||;]
uh.. ideachannel.tv 10 hours worht of his ideas
watch the 1980 shit tho
the 1990 ver sucks in comparrison
im at # 6 now
the 2nd half is debates..
which are great cause he strikes down all the perceived challenges
he has already answered all the questions...
and his vision is very clear
and i see it now like my hands before my face
government programs are doomed to fail...
because noone spends other peoples money like they spend their own
and gov programs concentrate too much power in one place by taking it from the individuals
so even tho something with good intent like a poverty of education program seems like a good idea
all gov programs for that statistically fail... or arent doing as well as a free market
ipfund.org for future use
cause that is a great fucking domain for this idea
i cant believe there is nothing called the IP fund
wtf..
good for us i guess
give us a very good name like general electric
it sounds official
The Intellectual Protection Fund
very official... which will make the meme stronger
with a savvy logo and seal... it will rock
and it think is very compatible with micro-finance/distributed patronage
systems
The IP Fund is something we can go to TED with..

after it has some movement
11:47
.hj barraza
oooh sureeeee its TED material
11:47

start with small things and work our way up to bio-molecules
get scientists to choose us as protection over themselves because its our mission
and they can still profit
and we take care of all the mess
just have to work our way up to that
...so imagine biology free to be used and examined by all
without restriction
that would be huge
not to mention everything else along the way..
code
apps
systems
devices
etc
shit..
just code alone
get programmers to allow us to patent code on their behalf
that would kill the software patents debate over time
becuase more and more people would protect the IP
and less would be around for private corporations to patent
...patents are great protection... too good of protection but the system in most places (the places that matter) make it a bitch to do so without adequate funds or a system that efficiently processes patents
...large corporations all have systems to pump out hundreds of patents a year
easy for them
hard for joe in his basement that just created an awesome novel procedure for fast table access er something
or the open source laptop project would protect their shit
etc etc
11:53
.hj barraza
cathing up
11:53

so to beat the patent system... we join it and use it against itself
...wow.
i like it.
5:30:20 PM Gabriel Kent: then display based onr ating
5:30:47 PM hj barraza: i had lunch with the director of innovation and tech transfer...
5:30:53 PM hj barraza: she also gives innovations courses..
5:31:12 PM hj barraza: anyways, i told her i didnt had time to put a project in the business incubator this days
5:31:27 PM hj barraza: so she told me she could gather the brighters students at university, and show em the ideas, and let them do the work
5:31:35 PM hj barraza: and we keep part of the company
5:31:41 PM Gabriel Kent: hmm
5:31:49 PM Gabriel Kent: that could work if managed well
5:32:09 PM hj barraza: sure, cuz for every 100 ideas we have, we have the time, and money to do 1
5:32:16 PM Gabriel Kent: yep
5:32:21 PM Gabriel Kent: unfortunately
5:32:24 PM hj barraza: for now
5:32:44 PM hj barraza: but remember, this year, we are deploying our foundations for financial freedom
5:32:52 PM Gabriel Kent: yeup
5:32:54 PM Gabriel Kent: good poin
5:32:55 PM Gabriel Kent: t
5:33:32 PM hj barraza: so anyways...
that ideahub or whatever could work if we select carefully a few group of bright entrepenur students and give them our ideas, for them to develop
5:33:56 PM hj barraza: we just give follow up, and a bit of coaching
5:34:05 PM Gabriel Kent: you ever check out y-combinator ?
5:34:20 PM hj barraza: i checked out x-combinator cuz im a man
5:34:26 PM Gabriel Kent: haha
5:34:26 PM hj barraza: (googleing)
5:35:07 PM hj barraza: so .. gather up small amounts of cash... and impulse business ideas
5:35:17 PM hj barraza: well the university can help to gather the cash ,...
5:35:24 PM hj barraza: they have direct access to goverment funds
5:35:29 PM Gabriel Kent: they are giving about $20000 per grant
5:35:47 PM Gabriel Kent: $10,000 up front for start-up costs... then they incorporate you
5:35:48 PM hj barraza: thats more than enough to start
5:35:54 PM Gabriel Kent: and give you the other 10,000
5:36:02 PM Gabriel Kent: in the business name
5:36:40 PM hj barraza: ill take a deeper look and see if we can propuse a similar model to the cit2 (inno n tech trans center)
5:36:44 PM Gabriel Kent: i think they have a decent structure
5:36:45 PM Gabriel Kent: http://ycombinator.com/faq.html
5:37:23 PM Gabriel Kent: Why the name "Y Combinator?"

The Y combinator is one of the coolest ideas in computer science. It's also a metaphor for what we do. It's a program that runs programs; we're a company that helps start companies.
5:37:24 PM hj barraza: or we could aaah they made reddit
5:37:48 PM hj barraza: and wufoo, and ... i think thats the only i know
5:38:09 PM Gabriel Kent: We make small investments (rarely more than $20,000) in return for small stakes in the companies we fund (usually 2-10%).

5:39:41 PM Gabriel Kent: hehe
5:39:44 PM Gabriel Kent: this is a good line:;
5:39:45 PM Gabriel Kent: The kind of advice we give literally can't be bought, because anyone qualified to give it is already rich. You can only get it from investors.
5:40:18 PM Gabriel Kent:

Y Combinator has a novel approach to seed funding: we fund startups in batches. There are two each year, one in the summer in Cambridge, and one in the winter in Mountain View. During each cycle we fund multiple startups. We've funded a total of 80 so far.
5:41:27 PM Gabriel Kent:
yea... I like their structure
5:42:18 PM Gabriel Kent: http://paulgraham.com/startupfunding.html
5:44:09 PM hj barraza: im back
5:45:34 PM hj barraza: i gotta move...
(changing office building) ill be back in about half an hour
5:45:43 PM hj barraza: errr
5:45:45 PM Gabriel Kent: word.
5:45:52 PM hj barraza: in two minutes, cuz my laptop is updating
5:55:34 PM hj barraza: ok now im leaving
5:55:48 PM hj barraza: if you get a hold of shinri , can you tell her to check her mail ?
5:55:49 PM hj barraza: thanks
5:55:50 PM hj barraza: peace
