Using Projects
---------------

Render Rocket's "Mission Control" web application lets you create projects to help organize your source and output files.  You can create a new project using the "Manage Projects" link or in the "launch render" wizard.

Uploading source files
---------------------------
There are 3 ways to get your source files to RenderRocket for rendering:

1)  Use the web/java upload tools under "launch render" and your files will be placed in the correct directories to render

2)  Use FTP to upload your source files into the "source" folder for your project.  (see FTP info below)
Note: all files must go into the same source folder, our system will resolve issues with file paths.

3)  Upload (using web/java/ftp) a ZIP or RAR package of your project directory.  After uploading go to the "Manage Projects" link, select your file and have it extracted on our server. Source files will all extract to the root of the selected project.

Advanced File Structure:  For customers that wish to maintain their current file structure while using RenderRocket,  a virtual root ("vroot") option is available.   Please contact our support team (support@renderRocket) to setup this feature.

FTP access
-------------------
Using an FTP program is often the best way for moving large amounts of source and animation files.  Your FTP account is automatically was created when you registered.

server:   ftp.renderRocket.com
username/password:  [same as website]

source files go in:   projects/[project name]/source    (all files go in the same directory)
render output is in:  projects/[project name]/render/[job name]
done job ZIP archives:  projects/[project name]/packages

Maya Render:::
Total processor hours:
17 hours
Processor hourly rate: 2.25 / hour
Estimated cost*: $38.00

i still think there are 2 factors tho
the market is big enough and will only get larger
and we can beat em at price initially
and so this is where we need funding then
we need to advertise like whores
like its going out of style
fucking spam the CGI and game dev internets with ads
im creating a renderrocket acc right now
so i can see their UI
ok check it out
you can see the UI
hmm
they give you 20 free credits
which i think means
20 free cpu hours
so they are giving like $20 free
to each new sign up
er well those that use it
they offer 11 renders
see the bitch is
those each cost money
so that means they already have the investment on software costs done
which means we might have to start out with pirate soft :x

RenderJuice virtual render farm, Idea - Cambrian House, Home of Crowdsourcing
www.cambrianhouse.com/idea/idea-promoter/ideas-id/...

The Idea

Animation studios and special effects companies use massive banks of networked servers called "render farms" to convert their animation source files into the final CGI sequences you see in movies. They simply need the "CPU juice" to crank out their render jobs. The Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud service brings utility computing to the masses and opens up the opportunity to create a virtual render farm service that would disrupt the existing entrenched big players with massive investments in hardware.

You can already use linux-based software like Muster and clone a bunch of virtual machines on the ECC service and render from any of the popular animation packages like 3ds Max, Lightwave and Maya. The trick here is to wrap the rendering software in an easy-to-use payment system and create a way to submit render jobs so that rendering from the 3d software is as simple as printing to a network printer.
