The first movement also provides the opening theme to the drama. Sonata for violin and piano, Op.82 (1918) [m] A song Chiaki and Nodame play together while at Chiaki's uncle's house. George Gerswhin
Rhapsody in Blue is a musical composition by George Gershwin for solo piano and jazz band written in 1924 which combines elements of classical music with jazz-influenced effects. Due to Gershwin's lack of musical ability to do so himself, his composition was orchestrated by Ferde Grofe three times, in 1924, in 1926, and finally in 1942. The piece received its première in a concert entitled An Experiment in Modern Music, which was held on 12 February 1924 in Aeolian Hall, New York, by Paul Whiteman and his band with Gershwin playing the piano. In the version for piano and symphony orchestra made by Ferde Grofé in 1942 it has become one of the most popular American concert works. [d:all] This is the closing theme for the drama. [m:?][d:5][a:?] This is the piece S-Orchestra plays for the Momooto festival. The piece is arranged so that the pianica gets a small but useful role (replacing some clarinet parts) in order for Nodame and a few of her friends from the piano division to be able to play with the rest of S-Orchestra. Khachaturian
The Sabre Dance is a movement in the final act of Armenian composer Aram Khachaturian's ballet Gayane, completed in 1942. It evokes a whirling war dance in a Kurdish dance, where the dancers display their skill with sabres. Due to its exceptionally exciting rhythm, the Sabre Dance established a place for itself in common concert practice, leading also to various adaptations in popular music. [d:various] This piece is used as background music whenever there are a ton of things happening at once, or there is a need to evoke a sense of speed. Korsakov
"The Flight of the Bumblebee" is a famous orchestral interlude written by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov for his opera The Tale of Tsar Saltan, composed in 1899-1900. The piece closes Act III, Tableau 1, right after the magic Swan-Bird gives Prince Gvidon Saltanovich (the Tsar's son) instructions on how to change into an insect so that he can fly away to visit his father (who does not know that he is alive). Although in the opera the Swan-Bird sings during the first part of the "Flight," her vocal line is melodically uninvolved and easily omitted; this feature, combined with the fact that the number decisively closes the scene, made easy extraction as an orchestral concert piece possible. [d:various] This piece is used as background music in numerous episodes of the drama for any scene needing that frantic, helter-skelter atmosphere. Liszt
The Mephisto Waltzes are four virtuoso piano solos composed by Franz Liszt. Of the four, the first is the most popular and has been frequently performed in concert and recorded[citation needed]. It was composed in 1856-1861, and Liszt made an orchestral version (as No.2 in the Zwei Episoden aus Lenaus Faust) immediately after the completion of the original piano solo. Liszt dedicated the piece to Carl Tausig, his favourite pupil (who died prematurely at the age of 29 in 1870). It is popularly called "the Mephisto Waltz," as if there were only one. [m:?][a:?] This is the song Chiaki plays for his graduation exam. Transcendental Etude No. 5 in B flat (Liszt) - ...

Symphony No. 8 (Mahler) - Wikipedia, the free e...
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symphony_No._8_%28Mahler%29 The work is divided into two large parts. The first, Part I, Hymnus: Veni, Creator Spiritus is a setting of a medieval Latin hymn by Hrabanus Maurus and typically lasts about 25 minutes; one of the soprano soloists does not appear in this section. The movement is almost continuously vocal, with the hymn being sung mainly by the choirs. Despite its apparent complexity, in it can be seen a type of sonata form.

Stravinsky
The Rite of Spring (French: Le Sacre du printemps; Russian: Весна священная, Vesna svjaščennaja) is a ballet with music by the Russian composer Igor Stravinsky. While the Russian title literally means "Spring the Sacred", the English title is based on the French title under which the work was premiered, although sacre is more precisely translated as "consecration". It has the subtitle "Pictures from Pagan Russia". [d:various] Differing parts of the piece are used as background music, especially when an intense and/or dark mood is required, such as Nodame's fearful remembering of her past conflicts with her previous piano teacher, Hanasakura.
