Worldview The lens through which we view the world – a set of beliefs, attitudes, and biases shaping how we think about events in the world: multifacted, maleable, and usually not fully or clearly articulated. It includes our perception of what exists, what and how we know, how people live in general, as well as how we should live – our basic outlook on society, economics, politics, religion, science, or any other matter of concern, especially moral or ethical issues.
Our worldview affects (and to some degree places constraints upon) the way in which we approach claims, issues, and problems, due to such factors as our childhood ‘formative’ experiences, social class, religious affiliation and depth of ‘faith’, nationality, and ethnicity, etc.
From the German Weltanschauung, 1868 (Welt world + Anschauung view): “a comprehensive conception or apprehension of the world especially from a specific standpoint”. (see also: ideology, objective, subjective, schema, perspective)
