Conversational maxims 

Suggested as the basis for any successful conduct of conversation:

  • quantity: that participants should be as informative as necessary, but no more so;
  • quality: that participants should not lie nor affirm things they do not know;
  • relation: that participants should stick to the point and introduce relevant content;
  • manner: that participants should be clear, brief, and orderly with their contributions.
