Strategy

Very generally: a rule or set of rules which determines or influences which choices an actor makes in particular situations – a scheme or systematic plan of action adopted or devised to achieve a goal, and the developing or carrying out such plans-of-action. Originally from the marshalling of the resources of nations by generals in the pursuit of the nations’ objectives;

also: an evolutionary strategy meaning some genetically programmed behavioural rule determining or strongly influencing how an organism behaves in a given set of circumstances.
