Criterion

Criterion

A standard against which a judgement is made, for example, about an evaluation or classification – a condition which must be present in order to decide upon something; an independent external measure against which a test can be validated.

Criterion measure

A criterion measure is the particular method of measuring such a standard in experimental research so, for example, if the criterion is academic performance, one criterion measure is grade-point average.
