Phenomenon

A physical occurrence open to observation and description, recognizable as something which can be specified in terms of change, and encompasses both concrete events and abstract constructs, commonly applied in situations in which the cause(s) or important influences are not clear or are in question, though not only restricted to that circumstance – in a context of explanation what is to be explained is often referred to as a phenomenon;

also, a fact – an occurrence or an event.

From the Greek for an appearancethat which appears.

(see also: effect, scientific approach).
