Competent/competence
The capacity, skill, ability, of a person to do something correctly or to a specified standard, or the scope of a person's or group's ability or knowledge; conducting or carrying out something in a skillful, effective, or knowledgeable manner;
applied to a person who has been determined capable to stand trial in that the person understands the charges and the consequences of a guilty verdict, and is able to assist with his or her defence; also: the legal authority of a court of other body to deal with a particular matter.
