Issue

That which is in dispute or debated: the focus of discussion or dispute; the question under discussion; any matter of controversy or uncertainty – in doubt or under review.

For example, in relation to the origin of life, the world, and the universe biblical literalists do not accept any departure from the Book of Genesis, the issue is whether the (Christian) bible is literally true, word-by-word, sentence-by-sentence, paragraph-by-paragraph – related issues include whether it is reasonable or acceptable for an entity called ’Creation-science’ to be taught in high school science classes as a scientific alternative to Evolution by Natural Selection.

Other simple examples of issues are:

What has been verified about what happened on 22nd November, 1963 in Dallas when President Kennedy was shot and assassinated?

I deny that’s true – I believe that Senator Free (Ind) will support the rejection of the upcoming ‘gun control’ legislation.

Should a situation in which teenage girls between sixteen and twenty-one years’ of age can have abortions in the absence of parental consent be considered warranted?

Is it advisable to lower the legal drinking age, say, to eighteen years’ of age?

Should animal experimentation continue, for example, in relation to safety testing of cosmetics, and if so: under what conditions?

Is it a prudent or legitimate use of public moneys (or of public policy) to attempt to rescue or retrieve the fortunes of private-sector companies because of apparent inadequate management, unsustainably high debt burdens, the poor state of the companies’ market ‘viability’ and seemingly likely failure, or for any other reason?

Is ivory-trading (or any other equivalent practice) ever acceptable?

Are there compelling reasons for having speed limits on roads and public highways?

Should sex education be taught in primary schools, and if so: what is the most judicious approach to utilize so that it really is effective in educating, while not indoctrinating any ‘unhealthy’ views?

Should religious monuments such as a plaque inscribed with the Christian “Ten Commandments” be displayed in ‘public spaces’ under the auspices of local, state, or the federal government?

Is this economy in recession? or When will the economy move out of recession?

Are there circumstances in which it is reasonable or appropriate for feral, native, or exotic animals to be made ‘pets’ by people, for example, cane toads, skunks, or tigers?

and so on.
