Scientific Methodology

Standardized rules and procedures guiding the conduct of science and resting on the foundation of empirical investigation and valid reasoning.

 

Important features include:

 

Üthe use of known facts, observations, and careful reasoning to construct theories and derive testable hypotheses;

Üspecific research methods to mount competent tests of hypotheses with the goal of increasing understanding of the phenomena being studied;

Üstatistical analyses to evaluate results;

Üthe drawing of appropriate inferences and conclusions;

Übringing to bear critical thinking principles to maximize reliability, validity, and usefulness;
