Darwinism

Darwinism
The theory of Evolution by Natural Selection conceptualised by Charles Darwin (1809-1882) and its Neo-Darwinist decendants. Its fundamental tenant is the principle of Natural Selection in which differential survival amongst members of a species affects the offspring produced by such members and is the primary engine of change in conjunction with variability within the population, largely resulting from genetic recombination (but see: mutation). Such variations are said to possess adaptive value for the organism if it increases their likelihood of producing more or more viable offspring (and living longer).
