Margin of error

Usually expressed in percentages, plus or minus, margins of error give an estimate of the level of accuracy which is warranted in drawing conclusions about a population using a sample. For example, a margin of error of +5 indicates that the chances are good that the proportion of the sampled characteristic in the population in question differs by no more than 5 percent from the proportion found in the sample.
