Sarcasm

A form of irony in which something or someone is belittled through an acerbic, cruel, or scornful remark or remarks.

 

  ’Put down’

Gambit in discussion in which an opposing point-of-view is belittled so that it would be difficult for another participant to agree with the point-of-view. Cf. argument stopper.
