Metaphor

A comparison and figure of speech in which a similarity or similarities between two ostensibly unrelated things, ideas, or subjects are noted to suggest a (symbolic) likeness.

 

For example, This house is a dump! An intimation linking the state or condition of a residence with the appearance or qualities of a rubbish dump.
