Context
A set of
assumptions operative in a discussion, argument, or exploration of an issue:

 

Ä

the specific circumstances within which an action or an event takes place;

Ä

the background against which communication occurs, including the relevant factual information, the aims and interests of the actors, and the presupposition(s) giving the communication its point;

Ä

those events and processes characterizing a particular situation and having an impact on actors thinking and behaviour.

In language context concerns the elucidating role played by and meaning which surrounding words and phrases impart to a particular word or passage.
