civility

Civility

In a critical thinking context: a realization of the genuine attempt to be gracious and courteous – and to treat others with respect and tolerance – when engaging in discussions about an assortment of claims, problems, issues, and policies, and in offering criticism of others’ analysis or positions, etc., especially with regard to controversial or contentious matters. This does not, however, involve any shading of or shying away from truthfulness or accuracy, but would exclude utterances and commentaries involving rancorous, vicious, hateful, sarcastic, or acrimonious responses.
